A rich and vibrant red velvet cake adorned with cream cheese frosting, perfect for holiday celebrations and family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large Eggs
  • 2 tsp Baking powder
  • 1 tsp Baking soda
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened Cocoa powder
  • 49 tbsp Flour
  • 1 tsp red Gel food coloring
  • 1 3/4 cup Granulated sugar
  • 3 cups Powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 3 tsp pure Vanilla
  • 1 cup Canola or vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp White vinegar
  • 1 cup unsalted Butter
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • 16 oz Cream cheese
  • 3/4 cup Sour cream or Greek yogurt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour your cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and oil until well combined. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the sugar mixture, alternating with buttermilk and mixing until just combined.
  5. Stir in the red gel food coloring, vanilla extract, and vinegar until evenly distributed.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. For the frosting, beat the cream cheese and butter together until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and mix until smooth.
  10. Once the cakes are completely cool, spread a layer of frosting between the cakes and frost the top and sides as desired. Decorate with holiday sprinkles and serve.

Notes

Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for added richness. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days.
