Description

Ingredients

  • 4 large egg whites
  • 1/4 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 gel food coloring (red)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp peppermint extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°F (93°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a clean bowl, whip egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks form.
  3. Gradually add granulated sugar until the mixture is glossy and stiff peaks form.
  4. Gently fold in the peppermint extract and red food coloring until combined.
  5. Transfer the meringue into a piping bag and pipe onto the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 2 to 3 hours, or until the meringues are dry and easily lift off the parchment paper.
  7. Turn off the oven and let the meringues cool inside for at least an hour.
  8. Store in an airtight container once completely cool.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature egg whites and avoid humidity while making meringues.
