- 4 large egg whites
- 1/4 tsp cream of tartar
- 1 gel food coloring (red)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp peppermint extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200°F (93°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a clean bowl, whip egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add granulated sugar until the mixture is glossy and stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold in the peppermint extract and red food coloring until combined.
- Transfer the meringue into a piping bag and pipe onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 2 to 3 hours, or until the meringues are dry and easily lift off the parchment paper.
- Turn off the oven and let the meringues cool inside for at least an hour.
- Store in an airtight container once completely cool.
Notes
For best results, use room temperature egg whites and avoid humidity while making meringues.
